Forward Motion

And it's the beginning of the end. While we were visiting with friends this weekend, N discovered the art of forward movement. It's not a crawl, but it's a tip-toe creep. Very funny to watch, although this means his reach has just expanded exponentially. One paranoid call to poison control taught mommy that even if I think something is out of his reach, I need to move it anyways. He's fine (and I knew he was fine), but I'm slightly obsessive over not killing my son!

Watching him learn and change from day to day is just amazing. Sometimes it's slow, and nothing much seems to be happening. And then all of a sudden, you turn around and he's creeping and standing and trying to pull up on things…

He's gotten much more interested in his books. Granted, it's all from a taste perspective. Right now, his favorite is the Spanish Made Fun and Easy I bought for myself about 10 years ago. We might not ever get to learn Spanish; N plays hard with his books!

In non-baby news, D ran his first half-marathon this weekend. He was very pleased with his time (2:05, right on his target time), but he is hurting now! He's still planning to do a full marathon in October, so obviously it hasn't dissuaded him from the idea of more pain over a longer period of time. I haven't grasped the allure of long-distance running.

It's Amazing What Happens in a Month

WOW! Has March been busy!

N changes so much from week to week. He went from staying pretty much in one spot — in one position, even — to wiggling, worming and squirming his way all around our living room. He's still not quite crawling, but that doesn't seem to limit his reach that much. He babbles "mama" constantly, much to Mama's delight and Daddy's chagrin (N seems to have forgotten how to say "Dada," or at least "Mama" is much more interesting these days!). He's perfectly content to practice standing by leaning against the ottoman or his music thing (I have no idea what to call it). Some days when I look at him, I think he may skip crawling entirely and go right on to walking. And I'm usually not entirely sure if I'm happy about that!

We had our first snow; how convenient was it that we get a decent snow for our first baby? N was unperturbed by the flakes when we took him out for the actual snow. He wasn't nearly as impressed the next day, however, when I laid him on a jacket in the snow. Of course, that could have been because I put him in about 14 million layers, mostly because we didn't have anything that was waterproof. The one piece of him that wasn't cover in a million layers (his hands; I was having a blond-mommy moment) was the first thing that went in the snow, and I think the cold was off-putting for him.

He's also the biggest flirt I know. He's got beautiful long lashes, and he's not a bit shy about using them! It seems like every time we go out, someone comments on how beautiful he is (and yes, we get a lot of "He's too pretty to be a boy!"). He smiles at everyone and even hides his face sometimes (while peeking out and smiling, of course). Here's hoping that his beautiful temperament lasts, and we skip the proverbial terrible twos!

I, meanwhile, have been keeping busy with work. In addition to the contract work I do for the company that bought CCM, I also offered to help my next door neighbor with some marketing collateral. He's opening the very first 9Round franchise (9Round is a boxing and kick boxing circuit gym). It was lots of fun getting to work that side of my brain again, but combined with everything else I had going on, I felt very overwhelmed! Fortunately, he was pleased with my efforts, even though I felt a little frazzled.
